African-Americans Most Religious Population in U.S.
African-Americans are markedly more religious than the U.S. population as a whole. Compared with other groups, African-Americans are among the most likely to report a formal religious affiliation, with 87% describing themselves as belonging to a group. Latinos have the second highest affiliation rate at 85% vs. 83% for the population overall. 79% of African-Americans say religion is very important in their lives vs. 56% among all U.S. adults. Even 72% of unaffiliated African-Americans say religion plays at least a somewhat important role in their lives.
