Sunday School Lesson Exodus 1:8-21

Midwives Serve God (Exodus 1:8-21)

8 Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. 9 And he said to his people, "Look, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we; 10 come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and it happen, in the event of war, that they also join our enemies and fight against us, and so go up out of the land." 11 Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh supply cities, Pithom and Raamses. 12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were in dread of the children of Israel. 13 So the Egyptians made the children of Israel serve with rigor. 14 And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage--in mortar, in brick, and in all manner of service in the field. All their service in which they made them serve was with rigor. 15 Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of one was Shiphrah and the name of the other Puah; 16 and he said, "When you do the duties of a midwife for the Hebrew women, and see them on the birthstools, if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live." 17 But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive. 18 So the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said to them, "Why have you done this thing, and saved the male children alive?" 19 And the midwives said to Pharaoh, "Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women; for they are lively and give birth before the midwives come to them." 20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied and grew very mighty. 21 And so it was, because the midwives feared God, that He provided households for them.

Sunday School Lesson 12/28

John Preaches to the People Luke 3:7-18

(Matt. 3:7-12; Mark 1:7, 8; John 1:24-28)
7 Then he said to the multitudes that came out to be baptized by him, "Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. 9 And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire."10 So the people asked him, saying, "What shall we do then?"11 He answered and said to them, "He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise."12 Then tax collectors also came to be baptized, and said to him, "Teacher, what shall we do?"
13 And he said to them, "Collect no more than what is appointed for you." 14 Likewise the soldiers asked him, saying, "And what shall we do?"So he said to them, "Do not intimidate anyone or accuse falsely, and be content with your wages."15 Now as the people were in expectation, and all reasoned in their hearts about John, whether he was the Christ or not, 16 John answered, saying to all, "I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 17 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire."18 And with many other exhortations he preached to the people.

Definition Please - "Civil Rights"

The most offensive thing that I keep hearing lately is the equating of the gay rights issue to the civil rights of African Americans. While I understand the harsh consequences of choosing to live a gay lifestyle, I can't with a clear conscience say its the same as being born with skin of color. It's quite obvious when I walk in a room that I am of color. How do I know who a person slept with last night? Is it my business? If God united man and woman and condemn all else, who are we to change the rules. I don't think He appreciates that. The objective of Christianity against gay marriage is not lessen anyone, but protect what God has ordained according to His Word. He loves all and condemns all. He also forgives and allows for repentance. The choice to live a gay lifestyle is choice that some have made with harsh consequences. These consequences are undeserved as a person. We should treat people with love according God's Word. We cannot base legislation on that which God condemns, but live according to the love that God commands.

Sorry, this issue is separate and not equal.... not sorry, just saying it like it is.

New Prez... Now what ???

We were so stirred by the idea of change. This speaks to the fact that we know that we are on the wrong path in so many areas. Whether its economically, socially, or otherwise, most people understand that there is a greater calling to the U.S. The question that I have is CHANGE WHAT??? The greater change must be individually in order that the whole might reap the affects. In other words, those fruits of the Spirit as outlined in Galations 5:22 must be that catalyst for change. The fruit must sprout from those connected to the vine from which the fruit comes. Those with true understanding of God, His Will, and His Purpose. God expresses Himself through His Word, His Christ, and His Spirit. It disagrees with the value system of this age, and presents the comformity and changes necessary for the U.S. to be great. Love and service are key elements in measuring greatness.

Governments upon His shoulder

The sovereignty of God is expressed in so many ways. He chooses leaders and then leads them. What a wonderful God! May God bless our country and allow the salves of healing that should flow through the crevices of our society that new seats at the table of justice be filled by all who come. God Bless Barak Obama!

Who Knew?

Purpose...Did you worship with purpose yesterday? Who knew?
Preacher...Did you preach with purpose yesterday? Who knew?
Choir...Did you sign with purpose yesterday? Who knew?
Musician...Did you play with purpose yesterday? Who knew?
Teachers...Did you teach with purpose yesterday? Who knew?

If they knew yesterday, do they know today? If we are doing all to the purpose and glory of God and with the knowledge, wisdom, and wherewithal that God has given, I believe that there will be impact in our churches. Understandably there are barriers, but pray that they be addressed. Then preach, teach, worship, sing, play as if someone's life dependent upon it!!! It might. It does. It is time out for half-hearted service. Be a catalyst for real service that God seeks.

Who is Qualified?

Honestly, I can't with a clear Christian conscience say I agree with any Presidential candidate completely. I honestly think it is quite small minded to paint yourself into a corner that labels yourself as anything but an independent thinker. So no, I'm not democrat, republican, independent, or forbid green party. However, there are some things that cannot be ignored. I admire that lack of personal attacks into the personal life of McCain and Palin by the Obama campaign. There are so many skeletons that have not been displayed. I mean who lives within the blocks around McCain's 8 houses? Who all has he serve with over his 90 years(+ or - 3%)? I think the true merits or lack of are showing well enough. Case and point below.

A Strange Christ

Luke 24:18 - Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass....

How big is the schism between God and the world? Even those who understood who Christ was did not recognize Him. They have seen His power, His person, and His work first yet He became a "stranger." How is it that the most popular man in the world was a "stranger?" What blindness overcomes a sinner that knows not Christ. Our preaches must preach Christ and abandon the notion of preaching an experiential gospel based off of hurt feelings and past issues. The gospel is that causes true change is that of Jesus Christ. Shall we not preach Him? Saints shall we not testify of Him? I recently attended a service where saints had nothing to say of the goodness God. Where is our vigor or has He become a stranger?

It is well with My Soul...Be Encouraged

Be encourage. What is the state of your soul when all else seems to be disturbing?

Open Blindness

Acts 9: 8 Saul got up from the ground, and though his eyes were open, he could see nothing; - Have we gone through the entire day oblivious to what God has done through His grace. Daily, He provides. Daily, opportunities of His goodness are before us. Yet we miss them through the activities of this life. The most concerning question for a Christian must be, "How many people have I led to Christ?" In answering this question we see the need to do much better than we have. We know the seriousness of the hour, the lateness of time, and temporality of our life streams and fail to share the gospel. I pray for boldness and willingness to share the gospel and make disciples.

Just in case anyone wondered who I support in the Presidential election.... Here's a hint... I vote my values along with my issues.

Magic or Miracle

Is it enough to just acknowledge God? No! Christianity acknowledges and understands that Christ is the key to eternal life. Wicca acknowledges deity, but no defined God. I did not understand the danger of this cult, especially when magic seems so harmless. The illusion of magician is no substitute for power. All power belongs to God and Jesus Christ, His Son. Wicca is Whack!!! It Kicks Rocks!!!

Church Info

I got a question about myself. I have been preaching for 10 years, teaching for 26. I am currently a full-time seminary student at both Moody Bible Institute and Lincoln Christian College. I am currently prayerfully seeking a Pastoral position so please pray for me in this arena. I work full-time, study full-time, and I'm married full-time so I'm very careful with any time I get. I attend New Morning Star MB Church in Peoria, IL where I serve as a associate minister. I teach and preach at various places across the country, bless God.

Feel free to register and drop me a line.

I will be teaching at weekend workshop along with very capable teachers in Dayton, OH on October 24-25. Place and time TBA.

Meet my cousin... Princella Smith

Meet, support, and respect a powerful thinker, Princella Smith. She's my cousin. She'll be the first African-American female president of the United States. Read about her now, vote for her later. I say this not only because she's my cousin, but because of her ability to think and stand strong. I am not Republican, nor Democrat. I'm Christian. God bless Princella!

Jamal Bryant rips McCain-Palin ticket

I want to be clear. I do not subscribe to the doctrinal statements made by Jamal Bryant. I am aware of possible lifestyle lapses and marital discord that are supposed in his life. However there is a truth must be heard from his statements regarding the McCain-Palin ticket. I must admit that as she cannot effectively run the White House while mismanaging her own house. While I don't condemn her for house mismanagement, I cannot support her as a figurehead.

Ever had a day like this...?

Ever had what could be called a "Bad Day." Well relax and wait a second. Dr. CAW Clark candidly said, 'You've got to wait and see what the other days are going to be before you call this day bad. " You may find out the other days to come are bad.

When churches sin

When churches come short of their responsibility to actively equip and minister...
When churches never execute accountability and restoration...
When churches follow shallow forms of worship laced with unscanctioned, unholy holidays...
When churches open the doors of the church and never disciple those who truly come to the door(1)...
When churches bore the parishoners to the point they never want to darken a church stoop again...

We're wrong in certain instance and need to seek ways to engage and grow to worshipping in Spirit and Truth. God isn't getting glory during too many portions of our worships. Sure criticize my thoughts, but there are some people at home that understand and they'd love to come church yet they're church hopping!

Thomas A. Dorsey - Listen and tell me what You think

Have we forgotten what it means to truly minister through music? How many churches have choirs that are engulfed with people that truly don't desire to minister through music? Ministry through music provides an uplift and atmosphere that causes all around to 'Lift up their voice' in praise and worship. And by the way, I don't see a retirement age for worshipers! The benefit package is still the best around though!!!

Life, my bucket list

If your life were a novel, what would it's title be?
How many lines would have strikeouts because of life's missteps?
How many pages would be blank because of days lived without purpose?
How many chapters would be missing a punchline because of dreams unfulfilled?
How many books would end....

Fear God and Keep His Commandment for this is man's all.

Problem with Palin (Hockey Mom)

I've got a serious problem with the fact that Palin is being referred to as the Hockey Mom's choice as opposed to the Soccer's Mom's choice. My issue is the fact her self definition as a hockey mom in no way connects with the majority of African American or Hispanics. To me it seems that there is yet another blatant ignorance of the issues that affect the minority issues.

We live in a time where so many have no true concept of truth. Truth is relative and not revealed. Revelation comes from God to man. We can be ever so thankful that Jesus plainly says I am the way, the truth, and the life. We have to boldly state before God and man that Jesus is the only way to eternal life. It may not be politically correct, but it is God's Word to say, "None but the righteous shall see God." Pray that you develop a worldview as dispensed from God to you.

Someone needs to continue this....

I didn't see this on CNN, Fox, or CNBC. Be aware of the vices employed to divide. Whether it is Jesse Jackson or Jeremiah Wright being divisive, unity is what is needed among Christians.

Sunday School Lesson 8/10 - Impartial Disciples

James 2:1-13 (New King James Version)

Beware of Personal Favoritism
1 My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality. 2 For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in filthy clothes, 3 and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, “You sit here in a good place,” and say to the poor man, “You stand there,” or, “Sit here at my footstool,” 4 have you not shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?5 Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? 6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into the courts? 7 Do they not blaspheme that noble name by which you are called? 8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well; 9 but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.”[c]Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty. 13 For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

Teen STDs

Source cnn.com

CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- At least one in four teenage girls nationwide has a sexually transmitted disease, or more than 3 million teens, according to the first study of its kind in this age group.

art.health.graphic.jpg

A virus that causes cervical cancer is by far the most common sexually transmitted infection in teen girls aged 14 to 19, while the highest overall prevalence is among black girls -- nearly half the blacks studied had at least one STD. That rate compared with 20 percent among both whites and Mexican-American teens, the study from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found.

About half of the girls acknowledged having sex; among them, the rate was 40 percent. While some teens define sex as only intercourse, other types of intimate behavior including oral sex can spread some infections.

Church Let Your Light Shine

Jehovah's Witnesses and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) reported the largest membership increases in a year, according to the National Council of Churches’ 2008 Yearbook of American & Canadian Churches. Although Jehovah’s Witnesses currently rank 25th in size with over 1.06 million members, they reported a 2.25% increase since the publication of the 2007 Yearbook. The Mormon church grew 1.56% and is listed by the NCC as the 4th largest “church.” Others among the top 25 largest churches reporting increases include The Catholic Church at 0.87%; Southern Baptist Convention (0.22%); African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church (0.21%); and the Assemblies of God (0.19%). The greatest membership losses were reported by The Episcopal Church (4.15%) and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) (2.36%). Both are currently wracked by theological differences and the issue of homosexuality. American Baptist Churches in the U.S.A. and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America were also hit with large losses (1.82% and 1.58%). The United Methodists saw a 0.99% decrease but remains the 3rd largest U.S. church body with nearly 8 million members.

Daring to be a Daniel

It can be ignored that Daniel's captors had an agenda for his life. The inspiring fact of this story is that Daniel had an agenda of his own. His agenda was intertwined with the God's purpose and will for his life. His captors sought to use his strengths as a weakness and for their own purpose. Is it not the sole agenda of our adversary to use the strength that God has endowed us with and diminish it to become a weakness. Our prayer and faith in God are strengths, not to be confused as weaknesses. Our youthfulness and understanding of life from a biblically sound worldview is a strength, not to be confused with weakness. Daniel's understanding of what is good for his life is a strength. What is God's agenda for your life? Has He capture your soul?

Sunday School Lesson 4/6

Daniel 1:8-20 Hold Fast to Your Convictions

DAN. 1:8 But Dan'iel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.9 Now God had brought Dan'iel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.10 And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Dan'iel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.11 Then said Dan'iel to Mel zar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Dan'iel, Han-a-ni'ah, Mish'a-el, and Az-a-ri'ah,12 Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.13 Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.14 So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.15 And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat.16 Thus Mel'zar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.17 As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Dan'iel had understanding in all visions and dreams.18 Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Neb-u-chad-nez'zar.19 And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Dan'iel, Han-a-ni'ah, Mish'a-el, and Az-a-ri'ah: therefore stood they before the king.20 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

The Truth is. Wright was wrong !!!

It is a good thing to have discussion about the truths of society. It is even positive to constructive place a spotlight on past unpleasantries and use them as a platform to motion forward to progress. The importance of remaining focused on the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the power that thrust all of mankind toward positive reconciliation. Social gospels laced with derogatory statements are not the purpose of the pulpit. The purpose of the pulpit is to reach the masses with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In doing so we must acknowledge sin and assign the root of sin correctly. We then do not damn anyone. Christ is the Judge and damns only those who reject God the Father, Jesus Christ His Son, and the Holy Spirit, His Witness. John 5 Verse 22
