Release, Renew, the Rise to Reward - Put it off! Pt. 1

Ephesians 4:17-24 (NASB77)
17 This I say therefore, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; 19 and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality, for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. 20 But you did not learn Christ in this way, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus,
22 that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, 23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

So how do we live a life of purpose? We have to change the path of our life and pursuit of our heart. The transformation takes place as Paul has said. After hearing and being taught of the truth of Christ, lay aside the old self. The old ways that enjoyed certain places, people, and pleasures has to succumb to true holiness. Paul asserts that it isn't a statement of the mouth, but it is a walk of life. Jesus said that "they honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me." Our life and hearts should honor Christ. Does the words you use honor Him? Do the clothes you wear honor Him? Does the way you treat others honor Him? What about your money spending, time spending, or job performance? Sell out for Him. Lay aside the old self. -- Release!

Sunday School Lesson 9/19

Gods versus "Gods" - Exodus 32:1-10

Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, "Come, make us gods that shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him." And Aaron said to them, "Break off the golden earrings which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me." So all the people broke off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron. And he received the gold from their hand, and he fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made a molded calf. Then they said, "This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!" So when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a proclamation and said, "Tomorrow is a feast to the LORD." Then they rose early on the next day, offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. And the LORD said to Moses, "Go, get down! For your people whom you brought out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves. "They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molded calf, and worshiped it and sacrificed to it, and said, 'This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!'" And the LORD said to Moses, "I have seen this people, and indeed it is a stiff-necked people! "Now therefore, let Me alone, that My wrath may burn hot against them and I may consume them. And I will make of you a great nation."

Sunday School Lesson 9/12

God Makes a Covenant with Israel - Exodus 20:1-11

Exd 20:1 And God spoke all these words, saying: Exd 20:2 "I am the LORD your God, who
brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Exd 20:3 "You shall
have no other gods before Me. Exd 20:4 "You shall not make for yourself a carved image
any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or
that is in the water under the earth; Exd 20:5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve
them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers
upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, Exd 20:6
but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. Exd 20:7
"You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him
guiltless who takes His name in vain. Exd 20:8 "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exd 20:9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, Exd 20:10 but the seventh day is
the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your
daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. Exd 20:11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Sunday School Lesson 9/5

God Calls Moses (Exodus 3:1-6, 13-15)

Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed. Then Moses said, "I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn." So when the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am." Then He said, "Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground." Moreover He said, "I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God.

Then Moses said to God, "Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they say to me, 'What is His name?' what shall I say to them?" And God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." And He said, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'" Moreover God said to Moses, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: 'The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.'

8/28 - Figuring out life ... Part I

If life were a book, then how many pages of your book would contain blank pages within your novel; Blank because you never discovered your true purpose in life. These blank pages would soon become chapters of aimless wandering that represent time spent doing everything except what your life was meant to be. The obvious question becomes how to begin pages of a masterpiece that would be befitting of the measure of a life spent with purpose. A life to be celebrated if not by a noted close-knit selection of friends and family then by the masses of surrounding admirers and detractors. Purpose is given by our Creator. We are what He says we are. We can do what He says we can do. If we live as He says and do as He says our lives will become articulated pages of a novel that have a purpose for which it was written.

Sunday School Lesson 8/29

Upheld by God (Acts 28:16-25, 28-31)

16Now when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard;but Paul was permitted to dwell by himself with the soldier who guarded him. 17And it came to pass after three days that Paul called the leaders of the Jews together. So when they had come together, he said to them: “Men and brethren, though I have done nothing against our people or the customs of our fathers, yet I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans, 18who, when they had examined me, wanted to let me go, because there was no cause for putting me to death. 19But when the £Jews spoke against it, I was compelled to appeal to Caesar, not that I had anything of which to accuse my nation. 20For this reason therefore I have called for you, to see you and speak with you, because for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.” 21Then they said to him, “We neither received letters from Judea concerning you, nor have any of the brethren who came reported or spoken any evil of you. 22But we desire to hear from you what you think; for concerning this sect, we know that it is spoken against everywhere.” 23So when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging, to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening. 24And some were persuaded by the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved. 25So when they did not agree among themselves, they departed after Paul had said one word: “The Holy
Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah the prophet to £our fathers 28“Therefore let it be known to you that the salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will hear it!” 29 And when he had said these words, the Jews departed and had a great dispute among themselves. 30Then Paul dwelt two whole years in his own rented house, and received all who came to him,31preaching the kingdom of God and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ with all confidence, no one forbidding him.

Sunday School Lesson 3/7/10 - Jonah and Ninevah

Mission to the Community Jonah 1:1-3; 3:1-9

1 Now the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.

CHAPTER 3
Jonah preaches at Nineveh
1 And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the second time, saying, 2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.
3 So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey. 4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown. 5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. 7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water: 8 but let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands. 9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

Ever feel like God wants you to do something, but you just don't want to do it? Then to make it worse, your reason is not a good one. No one is beyond the grace of God upon the will of His call.

Sunday School 2/28

Matthew 26:6-13

And when Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil, and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table. But when His disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? For this fragrant oil might have been sold for much and given to the poor.” But when Jesus was aware of it, He said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for Me. For you have the poor with you always, but Me you do not have always. For in pouring this fragrant oil on My body, she did it for My burial. Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.”

Are you giving the Lord your best. Pray to have a heart to surrender more of yourself to Him

Holy Conversation

I love being able to pray. Short prayers, but He gets it. Short prayers, but He fills in my blanks. Short prayers, because he knows me. Short prayers, because He did it. Although sometimes I need to take my take and pour out my heart. Let Him know how much I love Him. Let Him know how much more He is to me than any thing else is or could be. Let Him know that I agree with His Word that He is holy, righteous, and gracious. Its my conversation language. All of this before I've even begun to ask for anything. It saddens me to know that so many people don't know how to pray or don't know "to pray." I just thank you Lord for making the power of prayer real in my life. This is my installment regarding my conversation...holy conversation.

I tried to bend my knees, but heart was already bent
Words that transcend the couch are being sent
My counselor waits and ask no questions
Perfect in time gives a command not even a suggestion
I ask the Lord for guidance and clarity on my path
Just hold on to ministry and perfect my craft

Sunday School Lesson 2/21

Matthew 17:1-12

Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”
And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid.
But Jesus came and touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.”
When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.
Now as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.” And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
Jesus answered and said to them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and will restore all things. But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.”

Invictus

I often think we're sleeping on the great minds and stories of our time. Everyone has a story. These stories as prolific as they are go untold and unattested to. Invictus offers a cursory glimpse into the life of Nelson Mandela. It presents his strengths and weaknesses as a political figure.

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Christ is the master of my fate as I am a slave to him. He is the captain of my soul as I guided by His Spirit. Thank you Lord for wisdom.

Sunday School Lesson January 10, 2010

Strengthened in Temptation
Matthew 4:1-11—KJV

THEN WAS Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. 5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and
setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, 6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands
they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
